Atheism Studies

Presentation by Bo and Ben

The first presentation was done by couple of our youngest members in the class. They had the topic on Atheism and here are some of the notes they used in class for their presentation.

Meaning of Being an Atheist

  • Atheist means that the person rejects the belief of there being a God or gods. Atheism is not a belief system or a religion, atheism is just the rejection of belief that there is any God in the presence or the past.

Atheism argument

  • If the person is an atheist, they would argue that there is no God. Here is a simple and basic atheist argument. “We cannot guarantee that there is a God because we cannot see our Gods. Although some of us believed in Gods since the beginning of time, but we do not know for sure whether or not those Gods are real.”

YouTube: Video “Atheism and Me”

This is produced by Nathan Forst, a self proclaim atheist. This 7-minutes video described his personal “belief” and also what he disbelieve. He also presented the basic framework of what atheism is, and how he perceive life as an atheist.

Additional notes from the Teachers:

After the presentation, we (the teachers) simulated a debate after their presentation where we divided the class into 2 sides, one side representing Christianity and the other Atheism. The debate was fantastic because it allows the students to put themselves into the mindset of an atheist (of what they learn in class), while trying their best to argue against the existence of God.

As for the presentation, it was simple and maybe a little too simple. Although Bo and Ben presented the basic premise of Atheism in their Google slides, but it seems to us that they didn’t spend much effort to go further into the reading provided. The end video was a great addition, but perhaps they rely too much of it. Also, their presentation skill also needs work. With that being said, this skill can be learn through typical schooling, education and experience as they grow up.

Put into account that they are one of the youngest members in this class (early junior high school students) and yet still able to present all these information in a structural manner. I, personally, think that is inspirational to the rest of the class and I commend them for being the first group!
