ECBC is overjoyed to hold its 32nd annual day camp for ages 3 to 12 in August 2025. This life-changing program provides families in the community access to a high quality, educational, and safe day camp in the summer. Our day camp program provides children and youth with engaging classes in music, recreation, arts, sports, community service, etc. that enriches the lives of children and youth. In addition, field trips will not only enhance learning experiences, but also build everlasting friendships and memories. We are dedicated to ensuring accessibility to all demographics and provide subsidies to families who are low-income, have multi-children households, are newcomers to Canada, and to those with special needs.

I) The Opportunity: Day Camp Leader (funded by CSJ)

This opportunity is for a temporary, summer position for up to 12 weeks in duration.

Position Title: Day Camp Leader

Application Deadline: Friday, June 6, 2025

Start Date: Monday, June 23, 2025

(a later start date may be available for a successful candidate completing Grade 12)

End Date: Friday, August 16 (22), 2025

Hourly Wage: $17.00 per hour

Hours: Prior and after the 2-week Day Camp, hours will vary between 30.0 to 36.5 hours per week

During the 2-week Day Camp, hours will increase to 40.0 hours per week

Reporting to ECBC’s Children Ministry Pastor, the Day Camp Leader is responsible for:

• Providing overall leadership to over 70 volunteers by motivating, training, guiding, and providing formal and ad hoc coaching to ensure volunteers have a meaningful summer experience and can meet to exceed the expectations of their role in achieving a high-quality and inclusive day camp for its campers

• Partnership with the recreational coordinator in artwork preparation, participant registration, budgeting, program design, and musical entertainment

• Overseeing established Health & Safety protocols and procedures are followed and maintained to ensure a safe environment for all participants

• Coordinating the daily operations of the day camp program, including designing, and managing camper and volunteer schedules and developing templates, checklists, and/or documentation to aid in its maintenance

• Communicate with guardians, outsiders, and contractors

• Assist the recruitment and training of volunteers

• Administrative tasks for camper and volunteer enrollment, day camp and training scheduling, attendance record keeping, and formal parent/guardian communication

• Teaming up and monitoring teacher volunteers to ensure safe, adaptable, and high-quality educational delivery of the established curriculum, including ensuring access to needed supplies

• Collaborating and working with the Children Ministry Pastor to:

o Ensure adequate staffing and volunteers to achieve a high-quality program.

o Promote the camp and recruit campers to include low-income families, new immigrants, refugees, and children with special needs.

o Develop specialized programing for children with special needs to ensure provision of adequate support and monitoring.

o Implement inclusivity objectives in the program and educational curriculum, including provision of additional training to volunteers on the diversity of potential campers ranging from immigrants, refugees, to local campers that may have visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.

o Promote the day camp, including marketing within the community, nearby schools, and partners.

o Budget and purchase materials and supplies, as required.

O Coordinate the overall well-being including the spiritual, emotional, social, and physical of the volunteers and campers.

o Recognize and empower volunteers for their contributions.

  • Stage performance and backstage technology.
    • Celebration of community events.
    • Scheduling, presentations, spreadsheets (digital skills); and
    • Train teacher volunteers and volunteers

• Act as a positive role model for all participants (campers, volunteers, staff, and congregation and community members) by embodying the values and behaviours in line with ECBC’s vision and mission  of Equipping Children to Be Christ’s disciples

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications of a Successful Candidate include:

• Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” for the duration of contract. We will provide services in Standard First Aid training.

Other Notes:

• The Successful Candidate will be required to arrange their own transportation.

• An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to ECBC, will be required prior to the start of the summer day camp. The Successful Candidate will be required to obtain this check directly from Edmonton Police Services. Please note: this check may take up to 3 weeks to process. Where appropriate, the Successful Candidate may be reimbursed in accordance with ECBC’s Children Ministry policies.

• The Successful Candidate will be required to be fully available and committed during the 2-week summer day camp programming, in addition to regular staff and volunteer meetings during the term.


II) The Opportunity: Day Camp – Director

Total Number of Hours: 288 (Number of Weeks: up to 12)

Hourly Wage Rate paid to participant: $17.00

Start Date: June 23, 2025

Position Summary:

The Day Camp Director is vital in ECBC’s 2025 Children’s Summer Program. Working closely with the Children’s Ministry Pastor, this position supervises and mentors the Day Camp Leader, ensures the effective delivery of high-quality programming, and oversees volunteer leaders and daily camp operations. The Day Camp Director will also collaborate as a teammate to foster a spirit of unity and shared leadership while modelling Christian character and servant-hearted leadership in all areas of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Oversight

– Supervise and mentor the Day Camp Leader, offering guidance, support, and performance feedback.
– Oversee day-to-day camp operations, ensuring smooth transitions, effective scheduling, and consistent program delivery.
– Coordinate with the Day Camp Leader and Recreational Programs Coordinator to align program logistics, training, and field trip planning.
– Lead and support over 70 volunteers alongside camp leadership staff, ensuring clear expectations and accountability.

Team Collaboration

– Foster a positive, team-oriented environment between leadership positions  ( Day Camp Director, Day Camp Leader, Recreational Programs Coordinator).
– Share responsibilities where appropriate, providing backup support to the Day Camp Leader and contributing to the daily running of camp activities.
– Engage in daily debriefs and planning sessions to align goals and maintain effective communication across leadership.

Program Planning & Execution

– Assist in designing and refining weekly programming, volunteer training, and camper engagement strategies.
– Participate in organizing and implementing on-site and off-site activities, including logistics and safety oversight.
– Ensure all programming reflects ECBC’s commitment to inclusivity, educational quality, and spiritual growth.

Volunteer Leadership & Training

– Assist in recruiting, training, and coaching volunteers.
– Lead pre-camp and ongoing training sessions for volunteers, emphasizing safety, inclusion, and leadership development.
– Recognize and affirm volunteer contributions throughout the program.

Communication & Administration

– Assist with key administrative tasks including volunteer scheduling, attendance tracking, incident reporting, feedback collection, and maintaining the assignment log book.

– Ensure clear and professional communication with parents, guardians, and external partners.

    Spiritual & Relational Leadership

    – Act as a spiritual role model to campers, volunteers, and fellow staff by embodying Christian values in word and action.
    – Support the emotional, spiritual, and social well-being of all participants.
    – Participate in devotionals, team prayers, and camp-wide spiritual moments.

    Follow-Up & Visitation

    – Organize post-camp follow-up initiatives to maintain connections with campers and their families.

    – Coordinate home or church-based visitations with families to strengthen community bonds and encourage ongoing participation.

    – Plan and assist with post-camp events, reunions, and church integration opportunities to support long-term spiritual growth.

    Other Duties as Assigned

    – Support any additional duties necessary to successfully deliver ECBC’s Summer Program, as directed by the Children’s Ministry Pastor.

    Qualifications:

    – Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership role in children’s programs, day camps, or educational settings.
    – Demonstrated ability to lead teams, supervise peers, and mentor emerging leaders.
    – Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    – Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds, including newcomers and those with special needs.
    – Alignment with ECBC’s Christian mission and values.
    – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    – Knowledge of safety procedures, conflict resolution, and camp administration is an asset.

    Preferred Assets:

    – Training or background in child development, education, social work, or ministry.
    – First Aid/CPR certification & Police Information Check within the past 6 months
    – Experience with large-group facilitation or performance/stage preparation.
