Edmonton Chinese Baptist Church (ECBC) is a Christian faith-based community committed to sharing the love of Jesus Christ and serving its diverse congregation members and the communities of central Edmonton, Alberta. ECBC has provided ministries and services to the communities of central Edmonton, Alberta through children and youth programs, multi-lingual ministries, and partnered with local charity organizations.
ECBC is overjoyed to hold its 28th annual day camp for ages 3 to 12 in August 2024. This life-changing program provides families in the community access to a high quality, educational, and safe day camp in the summer. Our day camp program provides children and youth with engaging classes in music, recreation, arts, sports, community service, etc. that enriches the lives of children and youth. In addition, field trips will not only enhance learning experiences, but also build everlasting friendships and memories. We are dedicated to ensuring accessibility to all demographics and provide subsidies to families who are low-income, have multi-children households, are newcomers to Canada, and to those with special needs.
With our policies, a safe environment is provided by reducing the risk of vulnerable sectors. I) The Opportunity: Day Camp Director
This opportunity is for a temporary, summer position for up to 12 weeks in duration.
Position Title: Day Camp Director

(a later start date may be available for a successful candidate completing Grade 12)
End Date: Friday, August 30, 2024
Hourly Wage: $16.00 per hour
Hours: Prior and after the 2-week Day Camp, hours will vary between 30.0 to 36.5 hours per week
During the 2-week Day Camp, hours will increase to 40.0 hours per week
Reporting to ECBC’s Children Ministry Pastor, the Day Camp Director is responsible for:
• Providing overall leadership to over 70 volunteers by motivating, training, guiding, and providing formal and ad hoc coaching to ensure volunteers have a meaningful summer experience and can meet to exceed the expectations of their role in achieving a high-quality and inclusive day camp for its campers
• Partnership with the recreational coordinator in artwork preparation, participant registration, budgeting, program design, and musical entertainment
• Overseeing established Health & Safety protocols and procedures are followed and maintained to ensure a safe environment for all participants
• Coordinating the daily operations of the day camp program, including designing, and managing camper and volunteer schedules and developing templates, checklists, and/or documentation to aid in its maintenance
• Communicate with guardians, outsiders, and contractors
• Assist the recruitment and training of volunteers
• Administrative tasks for camper and volunteer enrollment, day camp and training scheduling, attendance record keeping, and formal parent/guardian communication
• Teaming up and monitoring teacher volunteers to ensure safe, adaptable, and high-quality educational delivery of the established curriculum, including ensuring access to needed supplies
• Collaborating and working with the Children Ministry Pastor to:
o Ensure adequate staffing and volunteers to achieve a high-quality program.
o Promote the camp and recruit campers to include low-income families, new immigrants, refugees, and children with special needs.
o Develop specialized programing for children with special needs to ensure provision of adequate support and monitoring.
o Implement inclusivity objectives in the program and educational curriculum, including provision of additional training to volunteers on the diversity of potential campers ranging from immigrants, refugees, to local campers that may have visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.
o Promote the day camp, including marketing within the community, nearby schools, and partners.
o Budget and purchase materials and supplies, as required.
O Coordinate the overall well-being including the spiritual, emotional, social, and physical of the volunteers and campers.
o Recognize and empower volunteers for their contributions.
- Stage performance and backstage technology.
- Celebration of community events.
- Scheduling, presentations, spreadsheets (digital skills); and
- Train teacher volunteers and volunteers
• Act as a positive role model for all participants (campers, volunteers, staff, and congregation and community members) by embodying the values and behaviours in line with ECBC’s vision and mission of Equipping Children to Be Christ’s disciples
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications of a Successful Candidate include:
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” for the duration of contract. We will provide services in Standard First Aid training.

Other Notes:
• The Successful Candidate will be required to arrange their own transportation.
• An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to ECBC, will be required prior to the start of the summer day camp. The Successful Candidate will be required to obtain this check directly from Edmonton Police Services. Please note: this check may take up to 3 weeks to process. Where appropriate, the Successful Candidate may be reimbursed in accordance with ECBC’s Children Ministry policies.
• The Successful Candidate will be required to be fully available and committed during the 2-week summer day camp programming, in addition to regular staff and volunteer meetings during the term.
II) The Opportunity: Recreation Coordinator
This opportunity is for a temporary, summer position for up to 12 weeks in duration.

Reporting to ECBC’s Children Ministry Pastor, the Recreational Coordinator is responsible for:

• Providing administrative support for operational day camp needs, where necessary.
• Coordinating the on-site and off-site afternoon field trips including, but not limited to:
- Contacting event locations
- Negotiating and securing contracts (communication/ collaboration)
- Making reservations and venue payments (numeracy)
- Coordinating transportation to and from off-site field trips
- Managing field trip expenses within the established budget (numeracy)
- Creating information packages, checklists, and/or documentation to aid campers, parents/guardians, and volunteers in navigating and preparing for the field trips (creativity, innovation)
- Overseeing camper safety during field trips (health and safety)
- Supervising volunteers during field trips (communication/ collaboration)
- Documentation of project report
• Collaborating and working with the Children Ministry Pastor and Day Camp Director to:
- Ensure field trips are diverse and inclusive to meet the needs of our diverse campers and volunteers and to achieve a high-quality program.
- Partnership with day camp director in artwork preparation, participant registration, budgeting, program design, and musical presentation
- Develop and implement volunteer training, specifically around field trip health and safety protocols and procedures
- Ensure adequate supervision of campers for on-site and off-site field trips
- Make incidental management, reservation changes to circumvent weather dependent field trips, and unexpected changes
- Recognize and empower volunteers for their contributions
- Manage and create schedules, presentations, spreadsheets
- Organize field trip orientation for volunteers
- Communicate with guardians, outsiders, and contractors
- Manage day camp participants into suitable groups and arrange into bus seats
