Unity in Church

Prologue:

(Welcome to Superbowl Sunday 2015)

Do you belong to a member’s only group/league?
– Costco, Gym Membership, soccer league, Golf membership, etc

Did you know?
– Yellowstone Club has one of the most expensive memberships in the world at $300,000 to join and an annual fee of $30,000

Read Ephesians 2:17-22
a. Paul wrote this letter to the Church of Ephesus while in prison
b. This letter talks about the concept of the church: a) What the church is, b) How to gain access to it, and c) How should be act

Ephesians 2:17-18 (What it is)
– We have unlimited access to God whenever we want

Ephesians 2:19 (How we enter it)
Believe in God, accept Christ to be your savior, and welcome the Holy Spirit to come in.
a. Accepting God’s gift
b. When we enter His Kingdom, we become part of His family

Ephesians 2:20-22 (How we should act)
– The cornerstone (or foundation stone) concept is derived from the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure.

Jesus Christ is the cornerstone, and we are to be set in reference to Him.

Epilogue:

All we can say is, God works in unique ways…

Little do we know, the Youth Fellowship (Hope) did a similar exercise on the pass Friday about unity. They did a game called “Unity Link”, where the fellowship group is divided in 2 teams; members of each team are linked by paper bracelet together. The goal of the game is to work as a team to break the link of the other group. This game fits the topic of unity, and perhaps it is a good idea to incorporate this game into the Sunday School hour the next time around.
